Why Relocation Abroad Offers Growth and Global Exposure

Moving abroad offers exposure and learning on all counts, beyond the constriction of staying in familiar surroundings with the same walls and environment.

In today's globalized world, it is not only our mindset that gets to change when we explore beyond borders, but also about embracing the opportunities and challenges brought about by globalization. The youth are more attracted to the freedom and possibilities awaiting them in other countries, where they can grow without the limitations they often face at home.

Freedom Beyond Living and Speaking

Freedom is not only being able to speak one's mind or to live unmolested. It means living securely in life—having jobs, health care, and insurance. These are the fundamentals of a system in which laws and regulations work equitably and impartially. This is how systems allow people to flourish, not in some constrained opportunity or unrealized potential.

And it is little wonder, if our own country lacks these foundations, that the youth would want to leave. Unless we create something better for them, as good as where they go abroad, an "emptying country" is all we can complain about.

Struggles Abroad vs. Prosperity at Home

Yes, toiling abroad is often struggle-some and laborious, but the rewards it provides are proportionate. With effort, financial security, quality of life, and personal growth can be achieved. As recent data shows, the trend of Nepali students going for studies abroad is increasing at a rapid rate. Fiscal Year 2080–81 (2023–24): 112,593 people received a No Objection Certificate from the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology to go abroad for studies. Fiscal Year 2079–80 (2022–23): 110,217 people received NOCs. Current Rate: It is estimated that close to 500 students a day are receiving these clearances. That is more than 100,000 Nepali students migrating every year for higher education.

The Leadership Paradox

Ironically, the loudest mantle of a prosperous Nepal has been taken up by those leaders who export their children to other countries. This reveals some sort of distrust in being able to build something worth staying for. Rather than complaining about the youth leaving the country, it is time leaders take responsibility to ensure that at least the same level of security, growth, and freedom sought elsewhere is made available within the country.

Globalization and the Freedom of Choice

The world is becoming a smaller place, and physical boundaries mean less than ever before. Globalization gives people a choice to live, study, and grow where they want. For Nepali students and youth, exploring the world is a step toward personal and professional growth. Whether or not they return to Nepal is their choice and a right they should have.

Before we shout slogan speeches about not letting the youth go, let us reflect upon what kind of atmosphere we are offering to our country as compared to what they get abroad. The actual challenge is to make a Nepal where they don't have a reason to leave in the first place.

This, therefore, is the reality of globalization: opportunities are limitless and freedom knows no border. Let us not lament at the exodus of our youths but rather accept these facts and strive to create a better Nepal.

Thank you,
