Heaven of Far-Western Khaptad

Place name Khaptad is proclaimed from the name of Khaptad Baba late known as Swami Sachchidananda. After the preference of Khaptad Baba, The National Park was established in 1984. Khaptad National Park lies in Far-Western region stretching over the Bajhang, Bajura, Doti and Achham district. (1984 website of tourism board)

Since a long time, we were planning to visit the Khaptad but time and situation did not favour of Khaptad trip together with the team. Finally, the draft plan was shared among the team, Narayan sir, Aaditya sir, Myself. Later we informed to PAHAL team Doti, Leadership of Hark Balayar sir( PC of PAHAL) with Governance and NRM sir ensured to participate in the Khaptad trip.

On the 21 June 2019, Aditya sir and I moved from Dadeldhura to Bajhang for the destination of Khaptad National Park. We already communicated the movement plan and schedule with Narayan sir who was already in Bajhang and team Doti. In that day, we stay in Chainpur Bajhang Hotel Holiday Inn. On 22 June 2019, At 6:00 AM we moved back to Tamil, Bajhang From where the way of Khaptad starts. After crossing the Seti River (Trail Brize) We have hired the Local Jeep up to Darugau, which was 9 KM from Tmail. From Darugau hiking was started up to 2/3 hours to reach the Lokhada, Chaanna, Bajhang. Where is a Tribeni Guest House,  The hotel owner is Prakesh Rawal Contact Number is 9848022856.

There is a First check post of Nepal Army where is the Ticket counter of Khaptad National Park. Ticket charge is 100 Rupees for Nepalese and 1500 for a foreigner. Total 948 national and international tourists have travelled through Bajhang rout over the period of FY75.(2019 ticket sold records register) Our first step was in Khaptad area about 2:40 PM. After 6 hours hiking was a bit tired but where we reached the feeling of entire tiredness was revealed due to such natural beauty and peaceful land. We stayed there had some refreshment time. Horses and cattle were grazing in the field then we moved to the main destination where we had planned to stay at night. We reached at 4: 15 PM there and stayed in the Guesthouse of Khaptad National Park.

After reached there we met the Nepal Army Captain Rajendra Kandel and he explained about the visit location, place, environment, precaution of visit place. Mr. Kandel is very helpful, he provided. sleeping bags as well as said that contact us if you faced any problem at here.

Next day on 23 June 2019, There was lightly raining and we moved to visit Khaptad Baba Ashram. Corner site of ashram we saw the lead mine with support of the priest. The ashram is protected by barbed wire. Inside the Ashram, we found daily uses materials like as clothes, sandals, dishes, sleeping bed, ancient musical instrument. One reading room was there where we found the many books related to philosophy, spiritual and about Khaptad Baba.

Near the Khaptad Baba Ashram, one wood made a small house was that place where King Birendra and Queen Aishwarya stay during the Khaptad trip. As per the locals and army priest's sharing that every year King and Queen would be visited in Khaptad. Still, visitors can observe the bed set of King and queen then we returned for lunch break and moved to visit the Khaptad Daha which is 3 KM from Khaptad Byareka. We observed Khaptad Daha is a beautiful pond surrounded by impenetrable forest.

We returned from the Khaptad Daha and observed the Nateshowari Mandir and under construction mini view tower of the on the way to the Living station. At the evening time, we divided into two teams, one team moved to Nagdhunga and One team stayed in the hotel to support for preparing dinner in the meantime we met an eremite who has been living in Khaptad Ashram since 4 months. He shared his learning through his devotion, meditation and living life as an Eremite.

On 24 June 2019 at morning 5:00 AM we returned back through the way of Doti. After walking 35 minutes we reached at  Tribeni Table (one of the famous place of Khaptad). We stayed there to be refresh and brushing. There is a beautiful temple in the middle part of the confluence. Narayan Sir showered in cold water and worshipped in the Tribeni Temple. Around 500 meters ahead there is a Sita Paila (Footstep of Sita). 2 KM ached we saw the Chinte Dhunga (A stone with the natural hole) (records of mobile apps offline google map ) where we found the temporary shelter of cattle with cowman. He provided fresh curd of a cow 25 rupees per glass. 

After then we walked around 7 hours and reached Jhigranaa Doti. On the way to Jhigrana, we were hungry and ate bamboo shoots and water. There was no phone tower in the Khaptad, just we got to the phone access in Phone Danda. We ate rice and lentils in Jhingranaa and moved to Silgadhi Doti by local Jeep. We reached at Pipalla Dipayal at 5: PM and finally arrived at Dadelduhra at 7:00 PM.

Finally, Our team fully enjoyed during the travelling period of Khaptad. As per discussion on the way of the returned day, all members were fully satisfied and happy for this short trip to Khaptad. The trip will be reminding us as a beautiful moment and part of a happy life. Thank You !!

Best Trip Season;- 

  • Spring - Mid-March to Mid-May
  • Summer - (Mid-May to Mid -July)
  • Rainy Season - (Not so bad, time to enjoy with light continuous water-Average cold-temp-8 to 17" C.
  • Winter Season - (Clod, Snow Falling, Difficult to climb but time to enjoy with snow)

Travel route from all over Nepal and World Wide 

From all over the world the first point is Tribhuvan International Airport  Dhangadhi Airport or Kathmandu to Dhangadhi by πŸšŒ Direct Bajhang or Doti Bus. From Dhangadhi to  Bajhang/Doti by πŸšŒ Bus. 
For Bajhag Tamail to Darugau πŸš™ Jeep
For Doti Silgadhi to Jhigrana πŸš™ Jeep (Based on visit experience)

Bajhang is the short rout of Khaptad visit. = About 4 Hours form Darugau.
Doti is also the route for Khaptad visit = About 7 Hours From Jhigrana.
Visit route also available from Bajura district. = About 4 Hours from Dogadi site. (information by locals)

As per my observation, the short rout of Khapt travel is from Bajhang and Easy travel route is from Doti. I have not experienced Bajura, however, the locals are saying that only 3 hours walking distance to reach after the place of the vehicle reached.

As per the National Park Report, 224 species of medical herbs, 270 species of birds and 11% of flower plants find in around the national park. (Records of Khaptad National park study 2011) Among the above sites, we were visited at Khaptad Baba Ashram, Khaptad Pound, Tribeni Temple and beautiful views and land in around. There was the office of Khaptad National park, Station of Nepal Army and small local hotel. 

Travel Pack or Necessary Preparation for Khaptad Visit. 
  • Trekking clothes and bag pack. 
  • Jacket as per weather and travel season. 
  • Travelling Stick (for occasional travellers )
  • Dry food/Food Package for the travelling period of Khaptad. 
  • Water bottle or Portable thermos for hot water. 
  • Portable first aid box or essential emergency medicine. 
  • Torchlight/Map and emergency contact number. 
  • Highly carbohydrates food to avoid altitude sickness.
For the information, Alcohol-related drinks are prohibited to bring inside the Khaptad National Park area but sometimes it can be available in the Kaptad through the locals but that is not legal. 

Those who are living in stress, want to free form the stress, take a short break from your work, want to refresh, who is living with pressure, sugar, excessive fat, who have a passion of travelling and hiking in the beautiful natural place, sounds, who have an interest of research, meditation. I believed that all kinds of mentioned above wishes and problem will definitely be solved at Khaptad but you should take time to stay there and visit there. I request to you visit once a time in Khaptad National Park to enjoy and feel a better life.
