This is not the time only to speak; this is the time to work for the better present and future of the public, youth, and children. No more words; now it is time to fulfill the dreams of those who lost their lives during migrant labor migration. I deeply respect their hard work and want to say, “Rest in Peace.”
To those who are still working under the burning heat of Gulf countries, helping transform deserts into cities of multi-star buildings, stay safe and work safely. Living far from family, neighbors, and relatives while working under extreme temperatures, pressure, and low wages is one of the greatest challenges faced by Nepali migrant workers in Gulf countries.
My deepest respect goes to their sweat, strength, sacrifice, and working spirit.
The first thing we should do is encourage and initiate opportunities within our own country and professions. It is definitely not as easy as saying it, but the Government of Nepal must take serious action and create strategies to generate employment opportunities at both local and national levels.
It is not a matter of pride to make agreements with foreign countries for easy and free visas to send our youth abroad for labor migration. The real pride lies in creating plans, policies, and opportunities to use the power, skills, and energy of Nepali youth for the development of Nepal itself.
The following graph shows the current status of youth and people under the age of twenty.

The current population structure of Nepal presents one of the greatest opportunities to accelerate development in every sector. Our nation is powered by the energy of youth, with a large proportion of the population under the age of twenty compared to the dependent population. If the country is able to recognize and utilize this opportunity on time, Nepal’s slow pace of development can definitely transform into a fast track toward prosperity.
However, if the majority of young people continue to spend their productive years abroad for labor migration and return only in old age, the dependency population will gradually increase. This could create serious long-term challenges for the country’s development and dream of a prosperous Nepal.
The following data reflects the last 10-year record of deaths in Gulf countries during labor migration a reminder of the sacrifices, struggles, and realities faced by Nepali migrant workers.
